History of portugal

Portugal is a European country with about 10 million residents and about 5 million migrants around the world. Portugal as the Portuguese Republic, is the currency euro (€). The language spoken is Portuguese as in former colonies.

The Portuguese territory, divided into 18 districts, extends from east to west for about 150 km and from north to south for about 500 km. The North and The Portugal borders with neighboring Spain and South and West is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean.

With the capital of Lisbon, Portugal also has two archipelagos in the Atlantic Ocean. The archipelago of Madeira is composed of two main islands, Madeira and Porto Santo, there are two groups of islands depopulated, the Desert Islands and the Islands Wild. In turn, the archipelago of the Azores consists of nine islands divided into three groups, Group West - Corvo and Flores; Central Group - Faial, Graciosa, Pico, S. Jorge and Terceira, Eastern Group - Santa Maria and Sao Miguel.

For the climate, the Portuguese territory is subject to various climatic influences. In summer the sky is clear, the humidity is low and the temperatures rise. In autumn the sky overcast and the rain intensified predominates up for long periods. In winter, temperatures drop and intense cold is mainly in and north of the country. The South, winter is short and the temperatures are higher than inside, that due to the Mediterranean climate.

In the Azores, the climate is mild and seasonal variations are minimal, it accentuates the rainfall throughout the year, with strong winds and high humidity.

Brief History of Portugal

As you know, Portugal was, is and will always be known as a country of conquerors.
After the occupation and battles between many peoples, including Romans, Barbarians, Muslims, among others, emerged in 1125 with only a young 14 years old, which means warrior and knight independent. The couple was called Afonso Henriques.

In 1128, after winning the Battle of São Mamede (in Guimaraes), Afonso Henriques said County Portucalense as independent principality.

At that time, Portugal was a world power, benefiting the entire Iberian Peninsula. The Portuguese imported spices (coriander, ginger, pepper, curry, saffron ...), coffee, rice, peanuts, pineapple, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, gold, diamonds, among other things, not forgetting the famous tea of the East that the British received and made to their culture.
