Children's Day

June 1

dia_crianca.jpgThe 2nd World War left a scene of destruction and poverty throughout the world. The families faced great difficulties and food was poor. Medical care were scarce and the children were removed from school and leave for work, thus contributing to the family economy. More than half of European children did not read or write.

In 1950, the Women's International Democratic Federation, the United Nations proposed that commemorate a day dedicated to all children of the world. Later, in 1989 was drafted by the UN, the Declaration on the Rights of the Child, thus appearing on 1 June as Children's Day.

The UN recognized that all children, regardless of race, sex, religion or social origin, require special care and attention, need to be prepared and educated so they can enjoy a better future and that it is crucial for the cooperation internationally.
